How to make a USB bootable?

hi,

I have copied xp files from a cd to my computer. I want to know if i can any how make my USB bootable with these files so that i can format a computer without booting to windows, just like the original windows cds which does not require to go to windows and upgrade or re-install from there, Also I wanted to know if i can boot from the Usb even if i have some other files like pic.s, text or setup applications in the usb.
