    "Unable to recognise USB"

I dont know why, but from the last two days, im having a strange problem in my PC that it is unable to detectany usb mass storage devices. It can only detect printers and mouse. Whenever i plugin any of the flash drives, it displays an error message,

    "Unable to recognise USB
One of the USB devices connected to your computer cannot be recognised or has malfunctioned."

I have checked all the drivers in device manager for the usb's but i didnot find any thing. I also connected it to the back port, but nothing happend. I also thought that there might be some dust on it and even dusted it. I installed vista and checked to find out if there was a problem in xp, but the same not recognised error. I tried to search for this problem on the net at many places and tried everything they mentioned, but I am still in vain.

Now hoping to get it solved it from here. Pls. help.

The first solution posted by utkarsh30june is called Power Drain. It is a common troubleshooting step that HP would advice a user to do when experiencing hardware problems.

@utkarsh, The articles you gave, i had read them already and also tried them. but nothing happened.

@ Prashant pai the removable device is enabled.

But, again when I tried to connect the usb, I couldnt find enough space to insert it at the back port, I had to remove the MFP machine's (Sharp AM 400 printer. Scanner, Fax, Copier, Printer all in one) USB cable which I had bought recently, and connected it the same day when this problem started. Then when I connected the Flash drive, to my surprise, it worked!!. Then i put back the MFP cable first at the back port, and secondly the USB at the front, it displayed the same message again. I removed the MFP cable and re-inserted the flash, it worked.

    So, the conclusion,

The MFP uses more power of the motherboard, to make very less available to the flash drive, and hence, due to less/no power running through the flash, does not recognise it. And starts working when the MFP cable is removed.

Thaks Joel, Utkarsh, Ray and prashantpai for trying to help me.
