acer aspire wont reconise dvdrw

hi ive got an acer aspire computer with just a dvd rom ive conected a dvd rw
but the computer does not show that it is there , ive tried a cdrw too but does not show anything its doing my head incan anyone please help thanx

Right click My Computer and select Properties. Go to Device Manager and see if you have a DVD/CD-ROM drive in the list. Make sure that there's no exclamation mark on it as well.

yes there is dvd-cd rom but wen i plug dvdrw in it does not show it it only shows original dvd rom

Is it a plug and play DVD RW?

its a sony dvdrw ive tried master and ive tried slave nothing at all happens the dvd rom in the acer has different connection to the dvdrw

yes the dvd rom that came with the computer is connected differently to the dvd rw im trying to install it as differnt leads the sony as the normall master/slave lead. ive connected the sony but can not see it anywhere on the computer

is it an external dvd rw or internal?
