i dont buy them at all, im satisfied with what i get built in.

i only buy one when the old one dont work anymore (my hercules 9800pro was broken so i bought a new one), and no, i'm not so n00b to do this kind of errors
Simplyfing, i look for the GPU and the clock of memory, i have a look at the dissipators (sometimes i change them), and then choose in that budget.

I have to agree with all his points, but the one i think is the most important is when he says only buy the card that you need for the games u are playing ,in my case i only play guildwars on my computer and recently purchased a video card to play it, at first i was looking to spend at least $100 for the card,but then realized that the bfg 9400gt which cost me $39.99 after rebates ,handles the game perfectly, i saved me some money there buy not buying what i didn't need.

On that note, anyone want to recommend me a good one to use for playing Red Alert 3 and Mirror's Edge on Linux?

I haven't had the need to buy a card yet, but I'm looking into buying one after I visit my girlfriend this year.
