It works for intel too. It is just a windows tweak than the AMD tweak.

I ve tried it...And...as expected...nothing
-
I think it can't be done on a DUAL-CORE

Woah! I still remember this thread, and it goes to 50% as it can't load balance onto the second core, if it is as old as you say then it would have been from the days of 1 core stuff when dual core was just a distant dream, and tri or quad core was absolutely insane idea that only crackpots on weed had any idea would come so soon.
They say 6 core processors will be coming soon, with things like the core i9.

I'm glad I found this thread because it's exactly what's been holding up my ideas for a new custom computer. So right now I have:
ASUSTek Computer Inc. K8N-E-Deluxe
2.20 gigahertz AMD Athlon 64
2048 Megabytes Installed Memory
RADEON X800 PRO/GTO (256 MB)
Win XP Pro SP2
So I bought Godfather II for my husband and it won't install because min requirements are
CPU: 2.8 GHZ P4 or faster
RAM: 1 GB or more
Shader Model 3.0 required. Video card must be 256 MB or more and contain one of these chipsets: NVIDA GeForce 6800, ATI X1600 Pro or better
My case is too old, so just plan to replace and keep old one for myself. But then I read that some old games won't work on newer CPUs. I was going to get another AMD, but now one of the computer techs at work said it's better today to get Intel. My husband uses games compatible with current hardware, but I want to be sure I don't upgrade to rig that won't play, Pirates, Hoyle 2005, Tropico (one of first releases), and others in 1999 and up range.
So dilemma is how to remain backwards compatible, but get new CPU and graphics card that will run the newer games as they are released (I think Mafia II is next on list).
One I put on Newegg wish list is AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition Deneb 3.4GHz Socket AM3 140W Quad-Core. Now this guy is making me rethink everything, so any advice would be appreciated. There is a guy at work who builds computers, but I might also use one of the online retailers on the order of Puget computers.
Had hoped to get new rig by husband's BD, but have dinked around too long! Thanks for any help or advice.

AMD is cheaper, but Intel is more stable from what I've been hearing. As for backwards compatibility... rather complex if it doesn't work by default.
