Confused Cannot play apple trailers on OpenSuse 11.1 (worked a few wks back; not anymore)

I am running OpenSuse 11.1 with Firefox 3.5.2 (that's the latest). I am having a problem with playing apple trailers. Yes , i know they don't play that easily on linux systems ; but after a lot of research i had managed to play it some 3wks ago. This is what i had done:
    > upgrade all my gstreamers to 0.10.12 or above wherever possible
    > tried getting all gstreamers from packman repo versus openSuse community repos
    > installed libquicktime0 & libquicktime - both
    > installed smplayer
    > my system already had totem (with plugins), vlc (with plugins), mplayer (with plugins installed)

More recently however, i got some upgrades to media packages like gstreamer & libquicktime and the trailers stopped playing. I do not have any problems with playing .mov or .mp4 natively with totem, vlc or mplayer. Streaming is an issue.

I have tried the openSuse forums ; but no success.

    Anyone with a solution ??

My first thought is to install Quicktime under Wine. I don't know how well that would work, or if it would work at all. But it's worth a go.

Also, Apple is getting more restrictive in how they let people view their trailers. Stupid, yes, but it's not a surprise. Try running this patch and see if it works. It was reported on Digg.com as a possible solution. It's just another pain in the ass for being a user of a hated OS by APPLE.

Infact i have this problem with all streaming quicktime videos. This patch is for apple trailers alone and is not a generic solution - it's a hack for apple's user agent block.

Have you tried installing Quicktime under Wine yet?

Try using the MPlayerplug-in or the mozilla-vlc-plugin. Those will both play Quicktime videos.

And if these fail, then we've got Apple who's changed their formats again just to f**k with us. I'd be out of ideas at this point.

The Opensuse forum has got the solution for this now until gecko mediaplayer gets this version into their svn. Link to the thread with rpm is http://forums.opensuse.org/applications/multimedia/419732-unable-play-apple-site-trailers-7.html#post2038850.

I got this rpm and trailers work great now !

Good to hear, this is the power of OSS... if we know how to code, we can code it.
