Well aware.. let's see what the new CEO brings, hopefully wiseness.. a chance to choose between a beginner's mode and an expert mode, would be nice.

I just hope she does not stop something good that's currently there. I am just scared that a change may change the LTS strategy of Ubuntu - the reason why i switched over. Does any of the other Linux distros have an LTS (free) strategy?
Here is an author's view of what the new CEO's priorities can be: http://www.thevarguy.com/2009/12/21/...-incoming-ceo/

Any reason, Wond, you scared that LTS will be dropped ?
There is always Debian. It might not be as cutting edge as Ubuntu, but it's rock solid.

i dont think she would do anything like that!!! she might just contiune to improve ubuntu to be more user friendly (not good for experts like hell boy)

Debian is a solid LTS distro. And Shan, I don't mind user friendly, I mind it if becomes too user friendly that you loose the power that the more advanced tools will have. No one has a reason to make Linux into a Windows-like OS. And I can't see them changing the LTS, because otherwise, they'll never make it in the enterprise portion of Linux. I can't see her changing that much to be honest.

@gene: I have a special affinity towards the 3 popular distros - OpenSuse, Fedora & Ubuntu. And LTS is only avl in Ubuntu - so that's a critical need for me.

Wond.... do you have any idea what Ubuntu is based off of?
Debian. Which is also a popular distro. If they get rid of LTS with Ubuntu (which I can't see), then go to Debian. Two years between releases should be LTS enough.

I know pretty well what Ubuntu is based out of. And mark my words in my previous post "I have a special affinity towards the 3 popular distros - OpenSuse, Fedora & Ubuntu". Debian is not in this list. In my opinion Debian as a distro is nowhere close to Ubuntu - now pls don't drag the discussion to debian vs. Ubuntu
I also hope you read thvarguy.com views on focus of the new CEO ; so no fear on LTS now.

Debian is popular though... At least I didn't say Sidux wond, look at it that way...
