How to know that I am getting the proper bandwidth??

I’ve a proxy server configured in fedora 9 with 1 MB bandwidth speed. Is there any software or technique to know or monitor that I am getting the proper bandwidth regularly from ISP?

I've never tried to check my bandwidth under Linux (unlimited bandwidth, just slow..) though NTop might do what you're looking for.

Off-topic, this should have been posted in the Linux subsection, so I'm moving it there.
