Ailurus - The easier way to configure Linux

I'm writing this up as Ailurus is still installing the sample stuff I asked it to (mostly overwriting lol), but already, I can recommend it to those that are new to Linux and would like an easier time to update/install the things they need to make it work to what they are used to.

This is not to say Ailurus makes Linux into a clone of Windows, this is not to say it makes it a clone of Mac. It's to say that it makes life easier on those that don't know much about Linux, and would like to learn by watching.

Ailurus is a simple setup tool that can set up the majority of what you'd like immediately. Don't know how to install MP3 playback or make FileRoller open rar files? Ailurus gives you the ability to check off what you'd like, and if you look below, or hover over it, you'll see the exact command you would have had to run had you ran it yourself. So not only does it do it automatically, but will try to teach you too.

It's a great idea that I wish when I was newer to Linux, was implemented then. Though at the same time, I'm kinda glad it didn't, because I'm sure I wouldn't know things like I do now.

So basically, if you'd like something that makes it even easier to move to Linux, Ailurus is a hand-holder. It would only be good to me, personally, as a bulk installer. However, to those that don't know Linux, it would be the best possible thing, because it sets up Ubuntu or Fedora (Works on Mint too) without any problems.

pacman -Syyu life not found in sync db

Even better, because it shows you want you have to do, so you can learn. It also supports Fedora, which is another popular distro... I don't like it myself but some do.

I'd recommend this over Ubuntu Tweak any day.

You edited your post Ha14... I don't know if it was called that or not, but I can say it's a good idea for newbies to learn more about their systems, and this can indeed do that.

Not a problem Alboguy, I figured I saw it in the GetDeb repos, might look over it. And it has a few suggestions for people

It apparently also teaches you on Startup... when you boot up after installing it for the first time, you get a tip that you can disable.

It's mostly to learn how your OS works... like Windows, you'll get so much more out of Linux if you understand how things work.

How did you install it? Via GetDeb or off it's site?

If you installed it via GetDeb, it won't install correctly, off it's site you at least will have it installed correctly.

And if it messed up and won't allow you to uninstall, open up Synaptic and remove it manually. Should remove itself then.

And it's in American, Flatlands, so we have to get my girlfriend to translate...
