    TrueCrypt for Linux

I came across this application and was wondering if anyone used it. It reminds me of WinEncrypt for windows, which I've used for a number of years now and really like.

    Thanks, John

I never had a need to, but I might start, just because a few of my friends do some rather... shady things.

I don't think we need such applications in Linux since Linux asks for the pass for almost every action. Plus you can password protect Home folder without any third party app.

    Screw Google! Ask me!

In most cases, that would be sufficient, but anybody who knows what their doing, can access the data on your HDD, despite password protection. With TrueCrypt, a separate vault is created that uses AES encryption, so it wouldn't be an easy task for even the pro's.

Alboguy, the difference between TrueCrypt and what you're talking about is that TrueCrypt is next to impossible to crack, you're the only weak point. With Ubuntu's password protecting the home folder... all you need is a live CD of a different OS, and you've got access.

    Scary eh?

I may be a bit paranoid when it comes to security, but I don't want it to be easy for anyone else to access data on my PC.
