How to replace system files in ubuntu

I was trying to boot Ubuntu 10.04 from a VHD. But it requires replacement of original initrd files in the "boot" folder with modified versions.

Now my question is how does one replace such files ? The paste option is automatically disabled. I tried with Live Ubuntu CD , but still it cannot replace files in the installed version.

First and foremost, you have to be root. That means
    Code:
    sudo
has to be used. You should try
    Code:
    sudo nautilus
, then you can copy and paste.
pacman -Syyu life not found in sync db
