    Fully Portable Ubuntu

I have installed ubuntu in my external hard drive.
It is because i could use the hard drive to boot into linux so I could do my work if suddenly my internal hard drive fails[my internal hard drive is failing and still have warranty (cannot remove the internal myself) but I am to busy and I need my laptop].
    My problem is MBR
Grub is installed in the internal hard drive so when I boot the external drive first with the boot option, it does not have any effect. So the linux is not bootable without grub.
I need a way to boot my linux[in the external hard drive].
Maybe how to write Grub in the external hard drive or how to boot linux automatically so I could boot linux when my internal hard drive fails, in any computer or laptop.

    Thanks in advance to everyone.

Then don't install ubuntu.you could make an live usb disk using Unetbootin. Then it is easy to boot into any pc that can boot from usb.You can also use start up disk operator option within ubuntu to create such an disk.

You can use the Ubuntu Alternate Install CD: (just click on: "Re-install GRUB....................................with the Alternate CD Rescue mode".) I hope this will be helpful for you .

I had a look at Unetbootin and this made me laugh.

    Introduction

UNetbootin allows you to create bootable Live USB drives for a variety of Linux distributions from Windows or Linux.

    Requirements

    * Microsoft Windows 2000/XP/Vista/7, or Linux. If you are having trouble with the Linux version, try the Windows version, it usually works better.
Me personally i would use Linux Live USB.

I couldn't tell you... I'm using a dual boot, so if my drive fails, it all goes sour. You might want to check their forums for a solution, a thought.

Why so boyzee? Unetbootin works great for me and for them who had used it.

instead of using any external program,i would recommend you to go the ubuntu way,wt u will simply require is a live cd and a live cd iso image, here is wht you need to do:

1.boot up from the live cd.
    2. plugin ur pen drive or external hard disk.
    3. goto system->admin->startup disk creator,, choose ur live cd image, and the drive on which you wish to have it ..

it works better than anything else, and you are allowed to save ur install or customization or anything else...
