    Hibernate/Suspend on Laptop

I recently installed Ubuntu 10.04 on my Hp dv9000 laptop and have worked out some bugs but i am having trouble with the Hibernate setting. When I tried to hibernate, on restart the screen was really dim and the only way I could get things to work properly was to push the power button to reboot. I have searched the net but I cant find a clear answer on this problem. I played with Ubuntu in the past and got my hands on an old laptop to install the program solely on this machine. No dual boot this time around and I am impressed with what it can handle. I am still a noob with this OS.
