PSK, you're asking to be shot.
Jokes and stabs aside, I prefer Salix at this point, which would be around 30th if I remember right.

oh hey paul, i just remembered, how was puppy linux for you?
would you recommend it to a linux beginner? pros and cons... i am curious

Puppy's one of my favourites but it's not as user friendly as a lot of distros: it doesn't hold your hand 100%.
That being said, it has a lot to offer these days and if you have a chance to use it, go for it. I wouldn't recommend it fully to a beginner, but if the beginner has a really slow PC, then it's one of the best ones to learn from, as their forum is insanely nice... and their IRC channel is insanely helpful too (as well as having a great sense of humour, I might add...)
Puppy also has the advantage now of being based off Ubuntu/Debian and still remaining extremely light, so your packages just tripled in size.
My only problem with Puppy, if anything at all, is the fact you're running as a root user out of the box with no log in screen. Other then that, it's a great OS.

im just glad debian is hanging on even tho many destros based on it are out now
and slackware the oldest man

Off-topic: My biggest problem with Puppy is that of it's internet/wireless connection and secondly, the GUI...wickedly ugly I couldn't even bear to use it for minutes
No offense to the developer or it's community but it's just my personal taste here...after all Linux is about "freedom of speech" right?
(or as much as allowed legally)
On-topic: Since trying out Ubuntu Lucid, I find it easier to handle things...perhaps it's a bit of drag on system resources now (GNOME) but using XFCE helps (haven't tried LXDE yet)...
And yes, I'm waiting for hellnoire' review on Fedora...before I consider trying it out. (1st time I'm actually waiting for hellnoire's post lol
)

Oldest actively developed distro, you mean, Shan. Oldest distro is dead... it's called Yggdrasil Linux and there are ones before that too... but they were only known as GNU/Linux for the most part, though none as friendly as Yggdrasil was. Slackware is older then Debian though, you are right there.
As for your comment on it hanging on.... majority of servers out there are Debian based, though we still see Red Hat and other distros too.
EDIT: before someone corrects me, MCC Interim is the oldest one. Wikipedia graphics at about 5000 pixels by 1500 pixels are win.

Debian and Slackware are great but they haven't been updated for a long time...

Debian got updated late last year to 5.00, and Slackware 13.10 came out about a week or two ago.
Distrowatch, god I love it at times.
