Lubuntu: Stuff You Might Want To Customize After Installation.
Hi guys!
About 3 days ago I installed Lubuntu and I must say I'm impressed.
Extremely fast, user friendly and the GUI was really nice-looking...Yep I added it to my favourite distros list and I think I'm gonna stick to it for some time. But what about the disadvantages. Just 3 words: Lack Of Options. So it took me some time to customize it the way I wanted.
Playing around with Preferences you can customize a lot of stuff but there are some systems options which are kinda hidden if I can say so.
1.Adding icons at the desktop.
Pretty sipmple. So simple that many of you might have already noticed. Just right-click at any icon in the main menu and click Add To Desktop:

2.Adding items to start-up
There are programs that you might want them to run on start-up ex: Launchy
After installation Launchy would not start automatically so open Terminal and type:
sudo leafpad /etc/xdg/lxsession/Lubuntu/autostart
add to the list: launchy %u (the @ is not needed)
3.Customizing the Main Menu
Have you noticed that after uninstalling some programs they leave behind shortcuts?Well in Lubuntu there's no such application like Main Menu. In fact there is but it's not visible and I managed to show it somehow but I forgot how did I do that. If I'll remember I'll add it later. There's a second option for this. Browse with the file manager through Applications. There are listed every item of the Main Menu.
4.Update Manager
There's no Update Manager option in Lubuntu therefore you have to do it through terminal:
sudo apt-get upgrade
These are some of the things that I did to customize Lubuntu. I'll think what else I should add here. This is all for now.
Enjoy!
And you're welcome to add further info!!
Thanks To Paul For Providing Some Of This Useful Information

*nix Technical Support
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade would be a better update. Refreshes the cache, and updates the new stuff.
