I don't think you'll be able to activate them in a VM... that's a tad too much stress on your hardware if you ask me.
pacman -Syyu life not found in sync db

well i think i have powerful enough hardware, i mean i have a nvidia 9800gt 512mb card, and a core 2 quad 9650 3.00ghz porcessor but i guess that doesnt matter since i using a 32 bit host and guest os, but i can try by starting with installing my vga card driver in the ubuntu inside virtual box, can you tell me how to do that....i downloaded the linux driver for my card from the nvidia website but it doesnt install inside virtual box, it tells me its not a bin file.....

Ubuntu most likely picked up the VM driver... that's what it always does for me.
Either way, if you want Compiz, I've never heard of a way to enable it in a VM... I've heard it done as a main OS, but never in a VM.

You have powerful enough hardware for sure, I used to screw with compiz effects on my old 9400GT. However, VirtualBox is software level virtualization. Unlike something like VMware it does not give direct access to the resources. It just allocates the resources respectively depending on your settings whereas if you had something like VMware usually your chances are better. I'll have a look if you can configure Compiz Fusion stuff on Ubuntu 10.04 AMD64 with vmware. I'm of course not using my old 9400GT anymore, I use an XFX ATI Radeon HD5770.
Well I was unable to do it, mainly because of the lack of drivers. not for my card for but vmware.

virtualbox and compiz-fusion does work, or at least it did work for me
It wasn't as great as some of the videos online portray yet, but I use a 42" tv as a dual monitor with my dual core 2ghz processors with 4 gigs or ram and only 128mb of video on this laptop. I gave the vm full access of the win 7 host and I could use desk top cube a few weeks ago. It did max out my cpu's though for a second everytime I would rotate the cube. Now though that I went back to verify before posting, it just didn't work? But then again I just did some auto updates before trying the desktop cube again and that might be what screwed it up. so I'll do what I do best and just wait for someone more into it then myself to fix it in the updates. Ubuntu has come a long way though! I'm using a 64bit ubuntu in virtual box oracle. I'm going to try the 32 bit thats recommended even though my host is a 64bit AMD. 2 of 3 of my comps have linux as the host and I couldn't be happier. Well I could be happier I guess, but I am delighted with the progress, keep it up my brothers and sisters of the free world!
PS the 64bit version on Vbox I'm running is the 10.4.1

Yeah... I found that out, once I updated to my new computer, that it does have high requirements but can do it.
