My verdict on ubuntu
It have been a long time since I touch ubuntu. I have sort of sworn myself never to touch ubuntu again for it complexity of commands (sorry hellnoire. Despite all efforts you put in to help me). I can't live with commands as I am more of the windows person.
Enough of the rants. So what make me touch it again?
Well not too long ago, I was asked my a dear friend to format her borther's laptop. Her brother is a university student and he store most of his lecture notes on his laptop. His laptop was unbootable as some files were corrupted. He need those notes. And they are poor people so they came to me. So I had to recover those files for her brother. But how I am I going to recover those files seeing that I have never done that before or have the faintest idea how to do that.
The it struck me. Use a liveCD as I have read that liveCD can recover files. But I do not know which live CD to use. The only liveCD I have is macrium reflect and ubuntu. And if there is one thing I did learn from hellnoire, that is "LINUX IS NOT WINDOWS AND WINDOWS IS NOT LINUX" and seeing that ubuntu is an OS by itself, I thought why not give it a chance. I pop in the CD and I was able to all of my friend's brother transfer files out of windows into an external hard disk.
But that was not what prompted me to write this. Today, my Maths teacher (my client) needs his laptop formatting. And he wants to recover his files. Naturally, I showed him how to recover the files using ubuntu Cd after accidnetally learning it. Then, I tried to connect online via wifi using ubuntu liveCD, and what do you know, it works! It was amazing as I have neverfigurte out how to get the wireless of ubuntu to work. But today, it could work just by clicking the signal bar.
All this was done using ubuntu liveCD 9.0.4.
I might try ubuntu again due to this 2 experiences.
Thanks for reading.

Hi Lunar,
You may want to download and burn Ubuntu 10.04 to CD if you plan to give it another try. 10.04 is more user friendly for "Windows users" than 9.04 IMHO.
There may be a bit of snow on the roof, but there is still a fire blazing in the hearth!

Going to agree with johnshaw lunar as im typing this in firefox using Ubuntu 10.4 i downloaded from the direct link with a really simple set up on an external drive, sounds and Internet access pre configured and graphics worked straight from the box so to speak... this is so far a much better experience than 9.04 and im happy to give this a whirl for some time to come..
