    These Apps have been tested on Ubuntu 10.04 (Lucid Lynx), OpenSUSE 11.2, and Fedora 12. Just Download, Make Executable, and Run!

    How to use an app from PortableLinuxApps

    * Make sure that you are using one of the supported distributions
    * Download an app
    * Right-click the downloaded app, select "Properties"
    * Click the tab titled "Permissions"
    * Check "Execute file as application
    * Press "Close"
    * Double-click the app to run it

    You can also use the command to set the executable bit instead if you prefer the command line.

    I heard about it myself... not much mind you, a StumbleUpon last night brought me to it.

    I will honestly say one thing though: it's interesting. Because you have to have the same libraries install on the first machine as the second.

    I imagine these all share the same default libraries on most Linux computers, hence why they are "portable"

    Well...You can pack a Windows application to a .exe file and make it portable. It's not that hard only involves a bit of work. But I'm really curious to know how they did it in linux. I mean linux works on packages and it looks like impossible...

    You can compile anything from source... a monkey too if you tried!

    Firefox 1.0? I'm not a Linux user (yet) but seriously I'd expect a more current version if I was one...

    And nope, before anyone here mentions "compiling from source"...let me just say that tons of users out there have better things to do and would prefer the smart geeks to do it for them instead...

    P.S. A good move for Linux but I'm still being critical as usual...please don't get offended as I didn't mean to.
