They're going to follow O'Reilly, and run out of weird things soon. (we hope).

Good question Neo. For me personally, I enjoy using Linux mainly for the challenge of learning how an OS works. Ubuntu, and Mint also, are being designed to work like Windows more and more with every upgrade and it takes the "fun" out of it for me. If you are only looking for a replacement for Windows, then Ubuntu and Mint are great OS's.

My problem with Ubuntu is because they are taking out customization options slowly and I'm not a big fan of that... I love customizing an OS as much as I feel I can without worrying too much. And Ubuntu's been leaning away from that direction recently... but to each their own. There's no big hardship if it does or if it doesn't for others, and it's not so much a hate of Ubuntu. Rather, it's a dislike the direction it's headed.

As long as you can get a command prompt, what matters what the GUIs do?

Ande, I'm a tweaker. If I can modify a certain portion of my computer without needing a third party tool, you're encouraging me to customize. That's how she flies with me.

If you suddenly take it away.... yeah... big big BIG mistake.
