I wouldn't choose the new version of Ubuntu whatsoever. The new interface sucks and Ubuntu is getting really bloated with redundant features. If i had to choose between only the two of them of course it would be Mandriva: lighter, simple and user-friendly.

    Screw Google! Ask me!

Heres another vote for Mandriva. I have run both Ubuntu and Mandriva and Mandriva performs like a grey hound in comparison to Ubuntu. However, Ubuntu is set up to be more user friendly for newbies, but I didn't find Mandriva all that hard to learn either.

The current Ubuntu version is both aesthetically superior and more user-friendly than the Mandriva 2010. That's given in any day! But it is more becoming the modern Mac of the linux's distros. Its beauty, fluidity and additional apps requires more horse power, thus modern hardware. I had some bad experiences with Ubuntu myself, and don't have any plan to come back soon yet.

Well for a more exciting Mandriva experience, you may need to wait more days for the new and refined one.

My choice is Mandriva It is easier to use than Ubuntu. Its firewall is easier to confgure and Mandriva has settings to harden the system which can be tweaked through a GUI without using complex commands

Edit: Though the 2011 version is around the corner mainstream support for 2010 will continue for 6 more months due to requests from users.

I guess I need to try some of the others. The only one I have ever used is Ubuntu 11.04. I was pretty impressed with it.
Linux Distro at the moment Fedora 17 / Firefox 12.0

I didnt like Unity initially but now i find it very user friendly. Ubuntu is suitable for almost everyone . so my vote for it .
the community is huge and supportive. it has max resources among linux and very good websites like omgubuntu and webupd8 for latest feature and news.

Moreover , its beautiful and even though it may not be a criteria for linux geeks but it is imp for normal users ( just like Mac)

    Also, i like mandriva too

Now that I have the new PC up and running, I may give Ubuntu another shot just to see what the newest version is like. My old PC ran pretty slowly with Ubuntu 11.04, but this computer should be able to run it.

Mandriva is amazing, imo. I'll use it any day, especially since it's quite adaptable.

Ubuntu's a bit more of a stick stuck in a brick: meant to be user friendly and that's about it, really. Wish it offered more then that... but it's really not that great, imo.

    That's my two cents.
pacman -Syyu life not found in sync db
