Linux Salix
Well, I bit the bullet and got Salix installed today. I must say that so far I am impressed. It boots up on my old PC in about 30 seconds, which is half again as fast as the newer Ubuntu versions and of course Windows. I really like the XFCE desktop as it is very lightweight and has all the bells and whistles I need. They even gave me a muti media codecs installer for restricted codecs so I can play dvds and mp3s. The package updater seems to work just fine and the repository for new app's is pretty extensive, but no where close to Ubuntu. Thats alright, as I don't like having a lot of extra stuff installed anyway. So far, I will give Salix a

Had a feeling you'd like it. It's one of those really nice distros that only comes along once in a blue moon.
Arch is still my choice, but when my Acer comes back, I might install Salix on there, that or Arch.

Once I get use to Salix, maybe I'll give Arch a try.

Arch can be a bit of a nightmare to some people, but if you follow the documentation, not much can go wrong.

I downloaded a pdf file with instructions for Salix and it helped to walk me through the installation and setup process with not much trouble.
Oh BTW, thanks for the tip on Salix!

I am really bad about asking for help, unless I just can't figure something out for myself. Don't know whether its the German, Norwegian, or Irish ancestry in me.

Haha, well, that's the thing, a well documented OS is the best thing to have in that case then.

Is Chakra linux (which is based on Arch) more user friendly than Arch? Any opinion about it?
