Woody I'm opening a new topic for this one although I think Ray should open a new Category "Woody & Odie's attempt to get Linux up and running"
When I try to install my modem Linux give me some message, which I'm to old to remember now, to the effect that it can't run an exe file.
Please don't tell me I must go and look for Linux compatible firmware
I refuse to tip toe through life only to arrive safely at death

Modem? Are you talking about a dial-up modem in your computers PCI slot or a DSL/Cable modem? Cause modems don't require installation. A router does, but not a modem.

I've had it with Ubuntu.
In my stupidity I didn't take notice of what I was doing when I installed it and in the process partitioned the whole hard drive. Needless to say I can kick my own ass. The Live CD I have doesn't have a partition manager and as my modem doesn't work, I'm a bit stuffed.
I eventually managed to get rid off Ubuntu by partitioning the drive again. The problem is when I now try to install Windows it doesn't read the hard drive although fdisk does.
Can somebody please tell me what to do.

Is it because you do not have SATA drivers?

Ray thanks a lot.
Sorry I didn't do the search on the blog but I were using a friend of mines internet connection to get some help and didn't want to abuse it.
A simple setting change in the BIOS did the trick !!! :D
One thing I have learned during the past week is that you don't mess with something if you don't fully understand it, unless ofcourse if you want to frustrate yourself endlessly.
I suppose Linux has its bennefits but I will find somebody to teach me before I try my hand at it again.

Damn, that's a shame. I don't think you need anybody to teach it to you, I would just try it another day. It gets confusing when trying to use Ubuntu and keep your old Windows OS. Setting up the bootloaders can be a huge pain in the ass. I've gotten frustrated to no end because i've had a dual/triple-boot system for the past couple of years XP/Vista/Linux. I've become a pro at setting them up. I've lost so many partitions and entire operating systems along the way, but I've learned a lot from it all. Also, in my experience, people who learn about computers on their own understand them far better than having someone teach it to them. Don't give it up.
Working with computers requires lots of patience.

Hi Woody
You are right. Today I feel better, now that I have a working system again. I'm anyway not the type of person that give up that easily. So I will try again but this time I'll definitely be a bit more careful.
I've read the instructions and what do you know, Ubuntu is back on my computer but this time as a second OS and without wiping my system again.
