    Connector wanted.

I took delivery of my first ever mobile phone last week and on plugging it in I found that the charger was DOA, after a phone call they sent me a replacement the following day.

It appears that they had a problem with the connectors on the phone end, the charger itself is alright.

The connector is 2mm, the same type that is used for the Nokia N95 etc.
I have been looking online this morning to see if I could get hold of another connector on its own to give me a spare charger but I cannot find one.
Does anybody know where I might get one?

    Hi Jay,

I did have a look at that but all I really want to do is just swap the faulty plug with a new one.
As you can get most other types of connectors on their own I thought these would be the same, so far it appears that I was wrong.
I will probably try to open up the one I have and see if I can resolder it but as the plug is moulded I am not optimistic.
Seems a shame to throw away a working charger just for the want of a connector even if the chargers are cheap.

I like the way you think! I grew up at a time, when people didn't have as much money and we learned to how to fix the things we had, instead of just throwing them out.

    Hi Bear,

I must have saved myself and others many thousands of pounds over the years repairing things that professionals/retailers/manufacturers said could not be fixed.
The one that has always stayed in my mind was a friend who had a very expensive fan oven on which the fan fell off, the manufacturers told them it could not be repaired and they needed to buy a new one for several hundred pounds.
I have to admit it took me two attempts to fix it permanently but that only came to an hour in total and it was still working several years later when they finally replaced it as part of having a new kitchen.
    The cost? 20p.

To me it is not just about cost it is about waste, I had one job where every so often I used to take things to the local rubbish point and the guy that worked there told me I was the only person he knew who drove out with more than he drove in with, that was 25 years ago and just a few feet from where I am sitting is a coffee table that came from there and I still have a number of other things from there as well. In fact just about everything I picked up from there has been used in one way or another either by me or by others.

We live in a world where for many throwing things away is the norm, the worst example I know of is where a charity in a city about 30 miles from where I live provides food parcels for several hundred people each week containing perfectly good food that is being thrown out by supermarkets.

I agree, my father was always one for repairing something or other and i have followed in his footsteps, as DIY was his passion.

I think the mechanic in you Pilgrim still shines through, now it's the disposable, era, probably why im a bit of a hoarder.
I remeber a few times that i was told this or that couldn't be fixed, im not sure if they where lazy or trying to make a few bob.

We don't need to live in a wasteful society, i see here that if you give clothes to a charity and say they couldn't make use of them they shread them and use them in garages as rags, so at least there is some use.

I remeber the kids having a nokia and pushing the reciever for the charging port inside and a bit of patience and it was working fine again.

Some times i reckon parts are made cheap and brittle cutting costs, for profit and greed.

I totally agree with that. It just burns me up, when I see people throw away perfectly good things, when they could easily be fixed up. I am not what you would consider a handiman myself, and I truly admire those who are, but that doesn't stop me from trying. I also hate to see food wasted and am happy to hear that there are organizations who make use of it.

I also give old clothes to a local charity, but for the most part, by the time I am done with them, the only thing they are good for is rags.

John liked to tinker about too, and loved his car, the last time i spoke to him some rotten sod had made him drive off road in the snow, not that they got the better of him.. growing up my father always had a shed and repairing something..brings back alot of fond memories.

The old Chevy is quite the car and Annie is storing until Jay is old enough to take care of it. The little rascal loves that car and I am glad that John wanted him to have it. John and I had a lot of great times cruising around in that car during our college years and playing tapes on the old 8 track tape player. Lots of wonderful memories that I will cherish for as long as I live.

I remember the 8 tracks well myself and my father even had a portable one that i used to play the wolfetones on, mind you that tape was banned in the UK.... you can't beat a trip down memory lane... im delighted for Jay i think he will be like his Grand PA in some ways, he mentioned the car to me and i hope he has as many good memories as you two did.
