WMP.... ewwwww *shivers*
I use JetAudio and BBE+ sound effects as well as ViVa additions and a custom EQ. It's normally playing VBR FLAC rips, or whatever I've downloaded and haven't ripped myself. I use it under Linux with WINE as well. Although, if I'm lazy on a new install of Linux, I just use Audacious2.
Code:Jet Audio http://www.jetaudio.com/products/jetaudio/ BBE+ as well as ViVa (sorry for the pdf, but it's the official document) http://www.bbesound.com/technologies/bbe_viva/BBE_ViVA_Audio.pdf FLAC http://flac.sourceforge.net/ Adacious2 http://audacious-media-player.org/
I use Xmplay on windows 7.It supports lots of formats and has a wealth of plug-ins available, lots of features and you dont even have to Install It,just unzip and put it where you want.

I like VLC media player for Audio/Video.. It's such a versatile one. Also It can enhance the sound more than any popular names.. WMP/WINAMP/Jet Audio. But Winmap is also good as a media player. I also liked Power DVD to listen Audio files.
