Is there any lyrics? Try listening to the lyrics and search for it.
Works most of the time for me ;)

When I hear a song that I like and don't know the name I just Google the lyrics, quick and easy.

kakashi, give this a try. I don't know if that's what you're looking for

Another idea is to upload the audio somewhere and then ask in DJ forums.

Yeah, the lyric thing always does the trick for me... but one thing that I've found is that the accuracy is really rather spotty- which is to be expected, I guess, since they really only amount to whoever wrote them's best guess- however (and maybe it's just me) but nearly EVERY time I read lyrics to something that I KNOW, they're maybe 70% correct. There have been a few times that I read COMPLETELY incorrect lyrics to a song who's LYRICS WERE INCLUDED IN THE ALBUM NOTES. You would think that lyrics would be corrected quickly, since those who want to know the lyrics are probably interested in what the song's ABOUT, but no.
So, say you're trying to figure out what this song that you heard on the radio was- but when you go to remember it, you've only ever heard it once, and the only part that you remember the actual words for is the end of the chorus, and the words are (of course) "come on, baby" Well, I haven't tried it, but if you type that phrase into a lyrics search engine it might just laugh at you.
But WAIT! Replaying the "come on baby" part in your head, you can remember how it goes into the next verse, but when the lyrics come in all you can remember is something like, "Any day dyahe lefemb sllaren"... but while you're not sure of the rest of the words, you're pretty concrete that the first word is "any", and the next one MIGHT be "day".
Now do an exact phrase search for "come on baby Any" and see what comes up. For how many songs have "come on baby" in them I'll bet there are significantly LESS that follow it with "Any".
You get the point. I think.

I have a question- does anyone know how that Verizon thing works where (in the commercial) someone hears a song while out and about, holds their phone up like it's the freaking eternal sword* and the phone just figures out what the song is and downloads it directly to the phone? It it actually doing an analysis of the audio? What does it analyze, and then what does it check it against to identify the song? Does the manual say something like, "V-cast music recognition works best during choruses"? Can it only identify songs that are on Billboard, or that are currently in radio rotation? Can it only identify Black Eyed Peas songs reliably, and that B*%$ in the commercial just got lucky?
I would be interested if anybody knew anything about it; my first response upon seeing the commercial was, "Oh, I'll bet THAT works GREAT..." (dripping sarcasm, if it wasn't evident)
But what do I know? Enlighten me. Us, rather...

Yeap I once heard about that in Malaysian radio station. They claim that they have a technology which can recognize what song it is by sending it to them. It has got to be some high tech stuff!

i would imagine that it would just be a form of voice recognition software only using tones rather than words :)
