Are they all under the same domain? I know with me, our domain is named 'HELLTRIBE' so to access each other's computers, with Vista, I had to change domain from 'MSHOME' to 'HELLTRIBE'

Workgroup and domain are 2 different thing.
Workgroup are just computers connected to network to share resources.
As for domain, there is a server that is responsible for managing security and other user-related information for the domain. This server allows login validation, by which a user logs into the domain and not into a single computer. Usually in a domain network, you'll need to login before you can view the shared resources.

This article explains very clearly what are the differences.
