I'm not sure where I should start.

Because you're not at home, you will not be able to connect to your home network, let alone your home internet. This is because you are 'out of range' of the network, so you can't connect.

    I did. Sorry about that.

What operating system are you running? I ask because my Vista has a hard time connecting to the unsigned routers.

At home, do you just open your laptop and hope for it to connect?

Cos, if so, connect manually to your home wireless..

Also, make sure you are in range. If you want to use it around the house, try placing the adaptor high up

Make sure your laptop is in range with your wireless router. Then make sure you've entered the correct encryption password, otherwise you'll only get limited connectivity.

If the laptop is configured for your office it is possible that the ip address its set up for is not compatabile with your dsl settings. Try this. Control Panel> Internet Options> Connections> LAN Settings. Make sure that the box next to Automatically detect settings is checked.
You are trying to run it with a wired connection, right?

yes ive already connected to my net.

btw its not a wireless router im using at home, just your normal dsl modem..

ive solved my problem by installing the internet protocol tcp/ip.. and ff rush's steps above.

but after installing and connecting to the internet the setting for windows log on and off changed and it wont let me change it back to what it was before..

it says the "netware somthing" forbids me to do so.. i need to uninstall the said netware which i found to be connected to the internet protocol tcp/ip. If im going to unistall it then i wont be able to connect to the internet again..

does anybody know how to change back windows log in settings with uninstalling the "netware something"?

    thnx
