how to LIMIT bandwith without a server

Hi, may i ask how to limit the bandwith, we have 3 computers at home and my friend keeps on downloading file torrent, i even cant open a webpage when hes downloading, can anyone help???

I would tell him to knock it off first, if he's not footing the bill or adding anything to it. I would have also recommended Tomato Firmware, but D-Link isn't supported last I checked.

Why don't you ask him what port he's using and open and close it via your router's firmware?

Open up your router settings, assign that particular PC a fixed address 192.168.1.X, then limit his bandwidth to certain periods of the day, or impose a quota on him. basically, it depends on your router model, so..

You can ask your friend to configure the torrent not to suck up all the bandwidth.

You can use a download manager like free download manager and install on your friends pc.then use the bandwith limit.Or on light mode

Only a few download manager can download torrent and was not faster than any torrent program like uTorrent, try call them configure speed and not keeping unlimited speed.

use dl manager such as flashget to dl torrent////
this can reduce albeit of ur bandwith....
