Need Advice on Setting up Proxy Server

Hi guys


I want advice on how to setup a proxy server... i mean .. i want to route all my traffic thru this proxy

i want the proxy to run on 3128 or 3124 or 3127 etc... other than 8080 or 80

how can i do ?

i am currently have a hosting account ... wht should i do to start a proxy server ?

do i have to install any scripts ? and can i start a SSL connect proxy ?

please help..

Unfortunate a webhosting account normally doesn't give you enough permissions to install a proxy server.

However, you can install a cgi or php script to make your webserver a web proxy.

actually i want a proxy server for my personal use.

i know some hosting who can do anything for money..

wht should i search for ? or wht should i expect from a hosting so that i can ruun my personal proxy server.

and if i do find one .. wht should i install or configur on the server side ?

in this site .. they give loads of proxy list... , i mean not like that site which gets proxy list... i think u get my point...

iwant to create one like those ...

where can i find host provider who can help me host proxy server ?

I think you should first understand that there are a few types of proxy.

Those proxy list from roinstrucment are actually misconfigured proxy servers and allowing other people to hide their ip address. It can be done via Microsoft Proxy Server or even Squid for linux.

I host a proxy on my site but I only unleashed the URL to my friends at school only.

If you are planning to use it in school, try downloading a few and testing them out as some proxys that I have used, the school has already blocked them.

Here are some tips;

PHP Proxys uses alot of bandwidth
CGI Proxies uses less bandwidth but has a higher load on the server

but wht i need is to route all my traffic ( small amount ) thru this proxy for privacy issue thats why i need a proxy server rather than web proxy ( all web proxy are blocked for me ...)

I might be off base here, but it sounds like the functionality your looking for is more suited to the services of a VPN gateway

i have few free VPN accounts.. i havent tried though , but in general VPN are tooooo costly , i cant afford...

i am looking for something like 2-5 $ a month Proxy hosting service...
