    Confused DHCP not giving IP addresses

    Hi,
    So right now one of my laptops (thinkpad t42, windows xp) DHCP client isnt giving out any ip addresses and when i go command prompt and ipconfig it says
    " an internal error occured: a device attached to the system is not functioning.
    please contact microsoft...
    additional info: unknown media status code."
    so in other words my internet is not working
    ive tried updating the drivers, restarting in administrative tools etc but nothing works.

    sorry this probably didn mske sense because im not that great with this branch.

    Restart your Routing and Remote Access services via Start/Run: services.msc
    and then try again and try update your driver network card to newest!

    DHCP client is not supposed to give out IP address.
    You'll need a DHCP server to do that.
    Normally a router has that feature. On Windows, you'll need to enable Internet Connection Sharing for that.

    You need to have DHCP server enabled on your router first. Since you may not be able to connect, first open the network card's properties and assign a custom IP address yourself. If every cable is connected and the card+router are working properly you should be able to login to the router.

    At this point check your router settings regarding DHCP (the location of this settings depends on the type of router you have). Generally they are found in the LAN section.
