work_life, unfortunately some country's ISP is not as efficient as yours.
Malaysia ISP TM Net is another big time problematic ISP which they don't give a crap on what problem you go through. Calling their customer support always ask you to turn off antivirus, turn off firewall, use direct modem connection, no router, blah blah blah
-
That's absolutely true Raymond, as I worked for various Isp companies.
But they should investigate more into their gateway routers?
As far as disconnection, Dhcp server could time out, MAC address changes,CRC errors in twisted RJ-45 cables.
I would suggest even resetting your NIC interface since its a direct connection.
On windows 98,2000,2003,xp, go to run, cmd, type "netsh interface ip reset resetlog.txt"
on windows vista, run cmd as administrator and perform the same following command.
Reboot the computer when this is done and test again.
hope this helps

worklife: They said they have changed the connectors enroute and they have come with a meter to my home and checked the signal strength, and they said its all "okay". Lets see, I have now started pinging www.google.com as per Raymond's advise and will email the log to them. Thanks to you too.
work_life: another query - My browser is closed, and there are no applications that use the internet, but I still see some data being downloaded on the "Adapter Watch". I started a Packet Sniffer and the following process seems to be working and the packet and Data size are increasing incremently.
Could you please tell me what this is - Is something being downloaded and uploaded when there are no applications using the internet, and the internet is on ? thanks, Shajan.

Shajan:Its normal shajan as this for the Dhcp requests(Bootpc uses port 68 and Bootps uses port 67) and Modem Tftp firmware upgrades.
These are normal Udp packets, you should not worry about.
As for the changes they have made, along with the resetting your NIC log's are you still expriencing disconnections??

work_life: Its much better now with only about 3 disconnections yesterday for the whole day. They now say that the signal strength is good enough to attach another modem too. Hopefully, it seems to have resolved.
Re. those UDP packets, fine then. Thanks for the confirmation. I could not find that process alive in "Process Explorer" too. Thanks for your help. Shajan.

My pleasure, Iam glad that this is working for you. They should replace your modem if problem persists.
Best Regards,
