Tying to set up a router
Okay, this is sad, I admit. I know so much about Linux... yet nothing on how to set up a router. Please help and advise. I've plugged it in, turned it on, password protected the wireless and made sure to change the default password too. My question is how can I get the internet to work via wireless? I've tried connecting to it via the wireless several times, and it gives me a LOCAL connection only, no online capabilities. It's a Linksys WRT54GS2. Please help.

Thats ok Hellnoire. Knowledge is Power
1)On the web mangement interface, Have you configured the wireless settings correctly See in LAN tab if you enabled the Dhcp server, network mode and security mode?
2)Is your modem connected to wan port?
3) What Os are you currently using?

May I ask if the wired connection gets the internet connection or not in the first place?

Simply call Linksys tech support with model and serial ready-they will help you set up for preloaded configurations or help you with custom set-up as they did mine.Took under 20 minutes from the time I dialed the number-done.

I set it up exactly as Linksys support wanted and it doesn't work. As for the internet. I can plug directly in and connect but not with the router on. And finally to work_life, yes, yes, and Windows Vista SP2

oh ok under the web management, under status> Wireless tab>
under cmd> "ipconfig /all" > corresponding to your local area connection
are you able to ping the Lan's default gateway ip address "192.168.x.x"?
Could you paste the info here, so I can pinpoint the issue?

I love how I set it up correctly and it didn't work, so I went and removed my wireless driver before reinstalling it. Might I add, this did the trick. It was nothing on their end, but it was all on my laptop!
Now, I'd like to figure out how to rename it now that we've got it up and working, please and thank you

The Fun Stuff Owner
Open up a broswer and type in '192.168.1.1'
Type in your Username and Password. If you dont have it, it should be on the underneath of your router.
Click on the Wireless Tab and change the name
