Blue Screen when trying to uninstall Atheros Wireless Driver

Hi, hoping someone can help me, i'm trying to uninstall a Atheros Wireless Driver, but each time I try to uninstall through network connections I get the blue screen. It looks like this driver was not the correct driver and is causing the blue screen. This is for my brother, his laptop is HP Pavilion. Tried to uninstall through control panel, add or remove but it doesn't show up in there. Tried to update with the correct driver from the HP website, shows in add or remove in control panel but under device manager, still shows Atheros installed. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Tried googling for solution.

Try uninstalling from Safe Mode instead.

Blue Screen when trying to uninstall Atheros Wireless Driver

Thanks Raymond for this suggestion, I never would have thought of it. Did what you said, just yesterday. It uninstalled easily and was able to then install updated driver.

    Glad it worked.

Logically a driver would be loaded when normal Windows is booted up. If it's a badly coded driver, removing it while it's still being used can cause problems like blue screen and etc.

However when you do it in Safe Mode, most drivers and softwares are not running and removing from there should be safer (that's why its called Safe Mode) :P
