How do you create a home network

    Hello,

Today i tried setting up a file sharing network between my desktop PC and my laptop. I tried using the Network Setup Wizard and the Wireless Network Setup Wizard in my Desktop's XP. It says it is finished but when i try connecting it says I do not have permission to access this network. Same goes for my Vista laptop. I have XP SP3 on my desktop and Vista Starter on my laptop. Can someone provide a detailed step-by-step guide in setting up a network?

    Thanks,

    Hi rnbv424140

Vista uses a new protocol, called Link Layer Topology Discovery (LLTD).
This is probably that you are missing on your xp.
    Try checking out this guide:
    http://www.computerworld.com/s/article/9019179/Teach_XP_and_Vista_to_play_nice_on_networks

A link for it at ms is: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=4F01A31D-EE46-481E-BA11-37F485FA34EA&displaylang=en

    Updated:
It is already in xp sp3. You need to add a protocol to your network connection. rightclick on your network connection and choose properties. On the general tab click the install button. choose protocol and click add. then choose microsoft and select "Link-layer Topology Discovery Responder", then click ok button.

    You can try this method:-

    1) Create local user account with password on both machines (XP&Vista)
The username and password must be same for both machines.

2)Configure file sharing on the folder that you would like to share. Add the user that you just created and give it the appropriate share permission. You will also need to add the user to security permission.

You will have to uncheck Simple File Sharing.

If you're sharing the folder from XP, you can mapped the drive to Vista using the user account created.
