"The dependency service or group failed to start"-Windows7
"The dependency service or group failed to start"
I get the above msg in "Network nd sharing center" in Windows7, so i couldnt connect to the net either through Lan or Wifi. When i go for troubleshooting option its says problem found:"The diagnostic policy service is not running", when i tried to start it manually from services.msc i get another error:"Windows could not start the Diagnostic Policy Service on Local Computer; Error 5: Access is denied".
I googled to find a solution for this problem. I referred the following sites
1.http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943996
2.http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/vistanetworking/thread/a2cf9717-6c0d-47d9-ae2f-ee0263a5f880
I had followed the steps given in those sites: "It is possible the permissions on a specific registry key was altered. You can try correcting this by going to Start, type regedit in the command prompt, right click the regedit program and select Run as Administrator. In the Registry Editor click the arrow to expand the selection, go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, SYSTEM, CurrentControlSet, Services, DPS, right click Parameters and choose Permissions. On the Permissions screen, select the TrustedInstaller user. If you do not see the TrustedInstaller user, click Add, type NT Service\TrustedInstaller and press OK. Ensure that the Full Control and Read permissions are checked for the TrustedInstaller user".
But even after doing all that the problem persists i.e "The dependency service or group failed to start" nd "Windows could not start the Diagnostic Policy Service on Local Computer; Error 5: Access is denied" when tried to start the service manually.
Plz help.
(Im attaching the screen shots for your reference)

Run ipconfig /all put the results here.
I don't need to know everything, I just need to know where to find it, when I need it.

Start > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt (Right-Click and Run as Administrator)
1. type: sfc /scannow and then press Enter.
reboot your computer. See if the error still there then run
2(a).Reset TCP/IP stack to installation defaults, type: netsh int ip reset reset.log
2(b).Reset WINSOCK entries to installation defaults, type: netsh winsock reset catalog
Reboot the machine.
update here.

Try these solution, Though i have never encountered this type of problem but still see if this helps you,
1) Try System Restore to an earlier date if you have created any.
2) Log-in as Administrator(by default Administrator account is disabled u have to enable it) and then start the Diagnostic Service Host and then Diagnostic Policy Service.
See if this help .

Go to services. find Diagnostic Policy service. Right click. Click on dependencies. Find dependencies that
are not started and start them. Also make sure they are set to automatic, not manual or disabled.

There are no dependencies in Dependencies tabbed menu under "Diagnostic Policy service".
and Diagnostic Policy service is set to 'automatic'

1.Type "msconfig", press "OK"
2. Under General in the System Configuration click on "Normal Startup" and reboot.
Set Network Location Awareness service startup type to manual if it is stopped or disabled.

Have you checked you permission to run the program(s)? If in doubt, and you're the only on on the computer, change permissions to everyone. I did that to get by a few micro-halts.
Also verify your temp directory is fully R/W by everyone.
