ipconfig unable to contact DHCP server

I just reinstall Windows XP home on my computer. Everything went well.
When I plus the ethernet cable, I get the "limited connectivity". I have tried to do the "release and renew iconfig". I get the message "ipconfig unable to contact DHCP server"?
The computer connects to the router using an ethernet cable.
The other computer (Windows XP Pro) works.

Ensure that DHCP Client service is running. Check via services.msc or in Control Panel --> Administrative Tools --> Services

Reboot the router. That should reset connectivity.

Is your router set up for DHCP? Mine is set up for static only... it's something we have to keep in mind when we're trying to connect via wireless here.

@ Hell, I use ethernet cable.
    @ Ande, I did. It doesn't help.
    I also tried:
Start > Run > cmd > netsh winsock reset
    It doesn't work.

Luffy make sure DNS service is also running. Open your router settings and specify the DHCP range. Run ipconfig /all > c:\ netconfig.txt share here. Run netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt or netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt. Reboot the mechine. Update here.
I don't need to know everything, I just need to know where to find it, when I need it.

Also make sure your firewall is allowing transmissions to/from the IP addresses in the DHCP Range.

Now this is strange. After I let the computer power off for few hours. Then I power on, it can connect to the Internet. After 15 minutes, I get the message ""limited connectivity" again.
Have you ever heard of ethernet card get overheated (in 15 minutes)? Is it possible?

That is odd... I've personally never heard of it myself but it doesn't mean it's impossible.
