Unable to view laptop on the network
My wife's laptop does not show up when I browse the network, however, she can view the shared files/folders that I have setup. Now the troubleshooting steps I have taken: Checked that the laptop is showing in the router, checked the firewall (KIS 2011) and ensured that the network connection is listed as a trusted connection, I disabled windows defender and firewall, I assigned the laptop a static IP address and assigned OpenDNS to for the DNS server. Both my system and the laptop are running Windows 7 X64, and we both belong to the same homegroup, even though the laptop has never shown up in homegroup. The router is a Netgear WNDR3300, my system is connected via gigabit Ethernet, and the laptop is connecting via wireless. I am at a lose of what to check next, it has become very annoying! What seems the oddest issue is that randomly the laptop shows in the network, but when I attempt to connect to it, I am told that windows can not locate the path (laptop), but this is a seemly random occurrence.

Check your wireless settings again.Did you set default gateway for your wife's laptop?? eg -
router - 192.168.1.1 (gateway for your network with internet)
laptop - 192.168.2.1 (ip), gateway ( 192.168.1.1)
pc - 192.168.3.1 (ip), gateway (192.168.1.1)
also use same private range for both mechine. You can set dns in router dns table also
.
I don't need to know everything, I just need to know where to find it, when I need it.
