I am pretty sure that it is not possible for your wifi router to get the internet connection from your computer via LAN and then share it out.

What you can do is probably share the internet connection from your computer using your wifi adapter if your laptop has one but the signal won't be very strong.

You can get routers that support USB modem. Plug in your modem to it and you can use internet using WiFi or ethernet cable as you do on normal ADSL modems. Some even come with inbuilt battery which makes them portable.

I agree with your software solution, connectify software simply rocks! But the real issue here is you must have a speedier internet connection to share it efficiently. Recommended for laptops and ultra-portable pc

You can do it with Cisco routers/switches.

And yes, I mean the corporate ones...

I have shared GPRS with Connectify. Worked fine for browsing on one laptop and one netbook. You can easily get a router which supports USB modem around $ 100. Check if it supports you USB modem type like CDMA, 2G, 3G, 4G etc. Works as good as high end routers.

Here is one for $ 40, supports 3G

One day, you'll be just a memory for some people. Do your best to be a good one.
