Hello! I have a serious problem regarding my Netgear router. It started when I first bought it (lol). At first I thought it had something to do with my driver settings but after a while I began to suspect something else. You see, whenever I connect to my wireless network I can surf for a couple of hours and after that, the connection just brakes off. I noticed that it immediately disconnects if I use Windows Live Messenger and chat with people who are also using wireless connections (totally wierd, other people who don't use WLAN never seem to bug my connection). It's really starting to annoy the hell out of me.... The idle hang time is set to 0 (zero) to keep the connection alive at all times, but no luck. The same bug happens over and over again. I also checked if there was a firmware upgrade for my model, but I have the latest intalled. Could it be that the router is overheating? Pls. help me! Since I live in Croatia, I use the crappy T-Com connection they've given me. It's not like I had a choice. The ADSL option (in my country) hasn't been available until the year of 2004! What a total drag... :(

bro, possible to give the model number of your netgeat router?
-
Sure thing, bro. The model number of my Netgear router is "54 Mbps Wireless Network Router WGR614 v6". Couldn't find anything else on it. Hope that helps.

When you first got this router, did you reset router to original default settings? Sometimes it is necessary to do that. After resetting it, configure ONLY your internet ADSL connection. Make sure that it can connect and you can browse without problems first.
If no problem, then continue configuring other settings.
I bought a 3Com ADSL Modem+Router once and it had problems connecting. The connection was intermittent. I reset the router to default factory settings and configured it. Then it worked flawlessly.
Good luck!

'elou, it's me again! I think I've fixed the problem. Netgear finally released a firmware upgrade for my model that's suppose to fix the connection drops. I've also read on other forums that people suggest that I disable the "connect automatically" option in my WLAN settings. I'm just waiting for the problem to pop-up again, so I can disable the option with a proper reason. Thanks for your time, Ray! You guys rule. :D

That's the best choice. Update your firmware if there's a newer version. Hopefully will fix your connection dropping problem.

Usually router like these doesn't need drivers and no installation.
You need to configure your router by connecting the router to your computer directly using a network cable. Once connected, you will need to check your manual and see what's the default IP address to type in your browser and also the username and password.
Once you get it, you can start configuring your router.

I use a Belkin wireless router and it has worked perfectly. Belkin and Linksys are the only two companys that i trust to buy wireless equipment from because i've never had problems with them. (Netgear is crap).
