wireless router 2 modem

I am having problems getting my belkin wireless router to connect to internet through my modem but vista gives me a dns error problem seems to be getting the router to see the modem and of course there install software is crap and says call support

Please make sure you've configured DNS settings at your Belkin router.

Next, if you've set your LAN or Wireless ethernet to Obtain DNS server address automatically, then go to Start > Run > type ipconfig /all and see whether the DNS is there or not.

If it's not there, you can manually add it to your TCP/IP properties.
