How do I network my VB.NET program

I am in the process of creating a simple clinic software using Visual Basic. I want changes made by multiple users on the LAN to be saved to the same database. I know I can install the software on a server machine and have others access it from here. But am not sure how exactly it is done without installing server OS. Some help pliz

I am no programmer but I guess you don't really "need" a server OS. You could install Microsoft SQL on normal Windows XP.
