Thanks to everyone for the words of support. A quick note, the software you need to install is trusted and at least half the forum already uses it (or something incredibly similar).

The puzzle has NOT been solved yet.

Some quick tips, the virtual drive is a slave drive. Use a Linux live CD in your virtual machine. It may take some work to be able to read it. Also, I'm a huge Rob Zombie fan. If you're far enough in to the puzzle, you'll understand that =P
