    Norton DNS Public Beta*

Norton DNS for Windows makes Internet browsing on your PC faster, safer, and more reliable.
The Symantec spokesperson explained "The Norton DNS service works by filtering the DNS requests that are automatically created when you visit a Web page to determine if they are associated with fraud, spyware, malware or objectionable content such as pornography or violence."

Interesting...I forgot to say that I've actually switched back to OpenDNS since I felt that the Google Public DNS was lacking features...despite the 'speed increase' I got from it..

I might give this a try...and perhaps do a quick benchmark to see if it's any faster than the other 2...

    thank you ceyfer
it sounds interesting although I already use Google pubblic DNS, in despite of some privacy concerns expressed by some people, I think it is very fast and secure enough

The good thing about trying DNS is that it there is nothing to be installed... But someone expressed at wilders that broken websites will lead to Norton Safe Search powered by Ask.

Norton Safe Search powered by Ask.
That's normal. Norton Safe Search has partnered with Ask ( search engine ). It's more fine than OpenDNS annoying ads.

Ask as a search engine is OK? I thought it looks suspicious... Ask.com is also listed in hpHosts...

For me, there is no redirection to Ask search. It simply says "host not found".

You mean the re-direction? Well, it's actually pretty easy to disable it...

Norton DNS is very aggressive. It is blocking most of sourceforge.net mirrors and downloads hosted by softpedia. I found it difficult to even download 7-zip and infrarecorder.
