New Antimalware Engine for MSE
As part of regular update of our Antimalware technology to address the latest in the threat landscape, the Microsoft Antimalware Team is planning to release a new antimalware engine on 15 July 2010.
Affected products: Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE), Forefront Client Security (FCS)
Engine Version will be in the range of 1.1.600X.0
Release date is on July 15.

The Forefront client is gaining more here, since MSE also act as information feeder for threats data and detection analysis.

And I assume they are going to make it "lighter" since Ray's benchmark showed otherwise
If only MSE updates from a different 'channel' from Windows updates, it would have attracted more users than it currently has...

I agree, it would be nice from MS if they changed their way to update MSE
