Thanks but I'm not a fan of blacklisting sites using hosts file....it tends to slow down browsing on my setup.
I use my hosts file to block Google, MSN and Yahoo ads and sometimes, I add in a few others to 'fix' certain annoyances...
They call me the mysterious one...

the good thing is that this software can be enabled or disabled at anytime.
A big difference I'd rather say with a simple patched HOSTS file

No doubts you are right but one can also go with the route of using 3rd party DNS service such as OpenDNS Basic/OpenDNS Family Shield, ClearCloud DNS, Norton DNS, etc.
It's a different method - one that is set-and-forget but still provides results
