Big Grin suggestion for a server

I'm going to have one server at my work (not aware much about server) but looking some advise from all of you (whoever can suggest something) how to choose server and program here is the basic details.

    * That server we will connect on static IP.
    * It will have one software which is in VB and SQL.
    * Will have some documents in doc, xls, ppt and pdf as well.

    My query is :-

    1. How to choose better configuration for easy work and better performace even when 4-5 person are connected at a time.
    2. How to choose better security (i.e. automatic, not like we get message your computer have one threat and need to do manual scanning).
    3. Whether it's possible to use Linux based os to work with above windows based system?

    Thanking you all for support!!!

It's possible to run Linux with it, yes.

I'd use Fedora if you really want security out of the box, but the issue is, you'll be fighting SELinux every step of the way. It would be better to use Debian for a server, for ease of use, but it's not secure out of the box. And take a look at LAMPP/XAMPP
