Problem with ahci sata/ata while downgrading vista

    Hi all,
I do have a problem downgrading my Sony VAIO VGN-NS190J from Vista to windows XP.Am booting the laptop with windows XP SP2.It boots alright but when it's just about to install windows it stops suddendly with a blue screen. The error says check if your hard drive is connected correctly, any newly installed hareware......I've been told that it's an issue with AHCI SATA/ATA drivers. How can i solve this because there is no SATA IDE to be enabled in the BIOS.Please anybody with any idea how to go about this? Thanks in advance.Justice

The best thing to do is making a new installation disk with Nlite and incorporate the AHCI drivers (you have got those) in there. To do that you must use a proper XP installation disk (not an upgrade version), but you can just borrow one and use your own serial key when it comes to activation.
If you have already installed XP, then you can try the F6 method, which means that you put the drivers on a floppy disk and push F6 before XP boots up. As modern laptops do not have floppydrives anymore this last method can be cumbersome.

Thanks alot Kees i did some research on your advice and managed to slipstream windows XP SPK2 and intergrated the AHCI SATA file for VAIO VGN-NS190J that i downloaded from Sony website. Now another problem that am facing is the drivers for XP.Sony only give drivers for Vista on their website for this model VAIO VGN-NS190J.Any ideas of any site where i can get these?Or how can i go around this? Thanks alot for your help.

you have to find out now what hardware components exactly you have (Sony may have them listed somewhere), then go the manufacturers' websites and see if they have XP drivers for these components. If not, you have a problem. The first thing I would do is google for "VAIO VGN-NS190J XP drivers". because some-one may have sorted it all out already. Another thing to try is going to the Sony user forums. Good luck.

    You might try this:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=186471

It deals with enabling AHCI mode after an XP install.
    Good luck.
