    Laptop TV Tuner

    Hi,

I have a laptop with Windows Vista Operating System - AMD Turion Dual core Mobile processor. I recently bought a Tech-Com USB2.0 Laptop TV tuner [SSD-TV-813] and made all the necessary connections. But, when I try to open the Honestech TVR Schedule it displays "Could not initialize the capture device"

I thought that there was some problem with the TV tuner and got it exchanged. To my surprise the new one also displayed the same thing.

So, I searched in the net for a solution and came across people with similar problems posted their threads and a solution was also posted which says

"could not initialize capture device": In Device manager under Sound, video and game controllers, you have to manually update driver for the "USB Video Device", so it shows "USB 2821 Video" instead using EMAUDIO.INF file."

I visited Tech-Com [www.techcomindia.com] and downloaded the driver for this particular package, but it was of no use.

I don't know if I had to again purchase the driver which was not mentioned anywhere in the Laptop TV tuner package or should I change settings to the existing drivers?

Please, could anyone help me out. Also, please tell me if I have got the right TV tuner.

    Thank you very much,

    Laptop TV Tuner

    Hi Lohithvnm,

Thanks a lot for your reply.

I downloaded the latest Honestech TVR Plus; and still faced the same problem. After surfing for a long time in the net I came across a solution [the attached PDF].

I just got rid of the initialization problem; But still, the TV is not displaying anything. It is blank. Please could you advice if I need to change and apply any software settings.

    Thank you very much,

I just thought I let you know that it may be that all the tv signals have gone digital as of yesterday. I believe that it may have effect your tv tuner. You may have to get a digital tuner for it. Not sure but it would not hurt to loook into that. Good luck

    Laptop TV Tuner

    Hi Lohithvnm,

Thank you very much for your reply. You were the only one to reply me. Anyway, my laptop was never satisfied with Tech-Com TV tuner. So, I got it exchanged again with MRon Rolf TV stick and it is working fine.

Anyone looking for a TV tuner for Windows Vista Operating System, I advice not to go for Tech-Com since it is not compatible with Vista, but it works fine in Windows XP.

    Thank you very much,

Reinstall the drivers and see. Is the card detected as of now ? Try using any other program and see if you can get the signal. VLC support streaming for cards (think so).

    Paint

Recently bought a dirt cheap Zebronics My Media ZEB2010 TV tuner. Worked like a charm without any configuration.
Zebronics sell's separate versions for CRT and LCD monitors. I bought the CRT version, worked on my 1980 model CRT TV monitor and my 2009 model Samsung CRT monitor.

The 1980 TV is quite a specimen, it has non standard AV ports, and cannot tune the entire TV frequency, i guess they dint have so much of frequencies for tv tx back then, and supports 16 channels.
