Turn it On disabled my task manager
I was trying to enable the send message button in the task manager with "turn it on" I ended up disabling my task manager. Now when I control - alt-delete, I only get the users box.
I no longer see process...etc
I wonder how to restore or turn back on the other task manager functions.

Try double left click on the border of your task manager window as it may be in Small Footprint Mode

Yeah do what fletch suggest.
You've just accidentally double clicked on the empty space of Windows Task Manager, causing it to go light mode.

I was so impressed at the help available on this forum. Thanks for sharing.
Not only did I solve my problem, but I learned so many new and creative ways to address problems.
I copied the taskmgr.exe from an acronis backup but this did not correct my particular problem.
I used start run "gpedit.msc" . Nice suggestion also that should have worked too.
In the end it - the problem was simple user error (mine) It was indeed resolved by the suggestion to double click on the boarder, it was indeed running in the small footprint mode or light mode.
Thanks for your assistance - You are all such gifted, sharing people
