Partitions? What The Hell...
Hi Everybody!!! Last night I virtualized OpenSuse with Virtual Box. I chose 25GB hard disk space and 512 ram. In the partition manager I chose new partition table and creates 20gb ext3 for OpenSuse root and 5gb swap. But when I created the partitions it asked me if i wanted a primary or extended. I chose the two partitions as primary. Of course after this I explored OpenSuse without any problem. But i got really confused. A lot of questions came through my mind. What's the difference between primary, extended and logical partition? What if I choose the two partitions as extended? What if I chose one primary and one extended? Does this affect an other operaring system that is installed in an other partition? I made a little research and i found that to be able to load windows you got to have only ONE primary partition
and you can not boot from logical or extended partitions. I noticed in my laptop that C partition is primary where windows 7 is installed, another partiton is extended and divided in 3 logical partitions: D which i use for backup and is logical, and 2 other logical partitions for linux, linux ext4 root and linux swap. What if all these partitions are primary? What if I install OpenSuse along side windows and i choose the opensuse partitions all as primary? The thing is.........I NEED HELP. And I assume that everybody in this forum would be pleased if Ray post a full article on the blog to describe the differences between each type of partition. THANK YOU
